About Me
The Yorkshire Dales has been both home and inspiration for many years, fuelling my creativity with its ever-changing beauty.
I spent my childhood in rural Buckinghamshire where I developed a long lasting love of the outdoors. I moved to the Yorkshire Dales early on in my working career and still find it to be one of the most inspiring and exhilarating places I have ever known. I love exploring the area and am constantly inspired and energised by the beautiful landscapes I see every day.
Despite a childhood dream of becoming an artist, on leaving school I followed my head and family tradition into mechanical engineering with the majority of my career in aerospace engineering. However, I never gave up my dream of becoming an artist and the opportunity to take early retirement enabled me to follow my heart and pursue my love of art full time.
I enjoy working with different mixed media, often with pencil and charcoal but my passion is working with oils.
My inspiration comes from my observations in the ever-changing landscapes, capturing the fleeting magic moments that the seasons and weather patterns have on the landscape, especially the changing light and cloud formations. This is different every day and even from moment to moment and I strive constantly to capture on canvas those brief but spectacular moments in time.
More recently, portrait and life drawing have played a significant role in my artistic journey, sharpening my observation skills and enriching my art practice.
